You Make How Much After 30 Thousand Streams?
You Make How Much After 30 Thousand Streams?
Southern Cross Country spotted this facebook post from a Country Singer from Austrlaia, Corey Legge about the state of the music industry as a whole – If you have ever wondered why going to gigs is important then you need take note of the money an artist makes when they have a song streamed. Go and see as many artists as you can – its often very cheap and goes a long way to helping record the next single.

Reg McTaggart - A Natural Entertainer
Reg McTaggart - A Natural Entertainer
The New Zealand country music scene lost one of its original cowboys recently – Reg McTaggart was an award winning country music legend – born in Dunedin but settled in Arrowtown. Hear the name Reg McTaggart and you automatically think Country Music. After winning the “Buddy Williams” award at the Tamworth Festival in 1989, Reg went on to win many awards throughout his career including Best New Male Vocal 1990 and Best Duet with Denise Hayes 1993 at the NZ Country Music Recording Awards. In 2004 he was inducted into the Gore Hands of Fame. Reg recorded many albums and singles and worked tirelessly to share his talent at huge festivals right through to local school events. Forever remembered for his classic country voice and beautiful guitar playing, Reg was a natural entertainer who gave a lot of his time to others and he will always be a huge part of the NZ Country Music landscape – From the album Crossing Bridges in 1990 to It’s Just My Pride in 2020 theres plenty of Reg to play and remember. Thanks Reg for sharing your gift – You’ve hung up the cowboy hat, but your boots will always be walking those country music roads

Southern Cross Country would love to know if anyone from New Zealand is heading to the Zach Bryan concert in Melbourne – Just one day after organisers behind Zach Bryan’s exclusive Melbourne show this December announced a venue upgrade, demand has shown itself to be so great that general sale tickets sold out in under 20 minutes.
Looking at Twitter, numerous Australian Zach Bryan fans have expressed their disappointment at losing out on tickets and have already resorted to sharing Tixel links, hoping that someone will let go of their ticket via the official re-sale website.
We would love to get Zach Bryan here in Aoteroa but in the meantime if your heading there in December – please let us know.

The 'Acres' Album NZ Tour
The ‘Acres’ Album NZ Tour
Hailing from Jindabyne, New South Wales, country songwriting star Brad Cox has celebrated the rip-roaring success of his new album Acres by jumping the ditch for debut New Zealand headline shows — he played in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch during October – where he tells Mike – the Wellington gig was one of his best ever and Christchurch was a sell out. Recorded between Sydney, Nashville and Gympie (in Queensland), Cox’s third studio record Acres topped his homeland’s ARIA Country Charts when it first launched in May, a career highlight since taking away the Toyota Star Maker accolade at the 2018 Country Music Awards of Australia. Brad has also been nominated for two Aria awards – Best Country Album and Best live Act – The Aria’s take place on November the 15th – Brad is a down to earth international star who took the time to talk to Southern Cross Country while in NZ – keep listening to hear the interview
“The ‘Acres’ Album Tour was such a success and everyone was sad to see the end of it. So we have decided to take it to the regions, and for the first time, New Zealand.” — Brad Cox

The Chicks Head to Aotearoa
Hot of the Trucking Cap of Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen, Arenas look set to be full to capacity again with country superstars The Chicks playing In Auckland and Christchurch in October. Wolfbrook Arena in Christchurch has already sold out its Oct 30 date with only a handful of tickets remaining for the Auckland Spark arena date of Oct 28th. The cheapest tickets for Auckland as of September 18th on ticketmaster were priced from 160 dollars. Earning universal recognition as the biggest-selling U.S. female band of all time, The Chicks have sold more than 30.5 million albums and are among an elite group of artists and the only female group to achieve multiple Diamond selling releases; reaching the stratospheric landmark of over 10 million copies sold, with both ‘Wide Open Spaces’ (1998) and ‘Fly’ (1999). Elle King is support for both Shows
Please be vigilante purchasing tickets through a third party – especially on Facebook – many Kiwis were ripped off by overseas scammers when Luke Combs rolled into town through elaborate facebook scams selling ” unwanted tickets “. Southern Cross Country Announcer Mike Puru was one of many who fell for the scam. Viagogo is also very risky so please be careful
Kaylee Bell receives CMA nomination
Kaylee Bell Receives CMA nomination
The Country Music Association (CMA) has shared its nominees for the CMA International Awards, Kaylee Bell alongside
Canada’s Tebey and Australia’s Casey Barnes are nominated for the Jeff Walker Global Country Artist award.
Bell has also recently been announced as the first female Australasian country artist to be accredited Gold for a single or EP in Australia in 20 years for her EP Red, and she’s also the first independent female country artist to claim the title.
The last time a female country artist received an Aria-certified gold EP or single was in 2003 when Australian country icon, Kasey Chambers’ hit single True Colours went gold. It’s something Bell can’t quite believe, “It’s just crazy to me that it’s taken that long but it’s also like I just feel so proud to be the next person that has done it.”
Kaylee has had an astounding year, completing a near sell out tour of NZ in June and has recently been in Nashville working with some of the best country producers and writers in the industry. Kaylee added
“I’m Honoured to be nominated for the CMA Country Music Association ‘Global Country Artist’ International Award alongside Casey Barnes and Tebey who are shifting the dial for CM globally.
“So proud to be a part of the growth of Country Music happening in NZ and Australia, thanks to you guys for supporting a genre I care so much about!”
The CMA’s will be held in Nashville on November 8th – SX Country wishes Kaylee all the luck our country boots can handle
